Kore Eda’s magnificent tale is full of both melancholy and hope.

After his huge success with ‘Our Little Sister’, critically acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda reminds us that the simplest yet strongest feelings are the bondings that unites a family with this heartwarming tale.

Synopsis:
Dwelling on his past glory as a prize-winning author, Ryota wastes the money he makes as a private detective on gambling and can barely pay child support. After the death of his father, his aging mother and beautiful ex-wife seem to be moving on with their lives. This is the time in his life where he understands that the simplest bondings are the hardest ones to repair…
Now realizing that he is a “perfect stranger” for his family he re-defines his existence. He understands that he had been wandering in the false areas for his search of any meaning. Renewing contact with his initially distrustful family, Ryota struggles to take back control of his existence and to find a lasting place in the life of his young son – until a stormy summer night offers them a chance to truly bond again.
Like a summer rain falling, “After The Storm” will rain on you. Multi-award winning and critically lauded director Kore-eda will remind you that the closest yet most ignored affections are the milestones that make you who you are.
